Field General Football 1971
Field General Football is not your typical tabletop football board game simulation. Instead of watching the plays happen, you take the field as the quarterback of the team. Armed with four plays (two passes and two runs), you have to navigate the defense, field position, and the clock. Use your team's unique strengths (and avoid their weaknesses) to find ways to put points on the scoreboard.
Field General Football is a fast-playing, fast action card-driven football simulation that puts you in full control on every snap. Every game unfolds with realism, tension, and strategic depth. Whether you're replaying classic seasons, building fictional teams, or running a multi-year career simulation, Field General Football delivers authentic American football drama without chart overload or excessive bookkeeping.
What makes Field General Football unique?
Unlike other football games that ask you to call plays, roll dice, and see how the team performs, Field General Football forces you step in as the quarterback and call plays that utilize the strengths of your team and attack the weaknesses of your opponent. The game causes you to think strategically and provides a unique first-person perspective rarely found in tabletop games.
Field General Football is played using an FAC deck of 72 cards and just four offensive plays. Defenses and offensive position groups are rated for the game and have a direct effect on the yards gained per play. Run against a tough defense because you need to safely gain yards then take a chance and hit them over the top with a deep pass. Offensive and defensive ratings allow you to experience the way the game was played without the need for changing up the base system. The game is built for universal play while the teams themselves provide the era contextualization.
The depth of the game comes from the seemingly simple mix of plays on offense against the defense's tendencies. Originally created by a football coach, the game simulates the chess-match that happens in a real game. Frustration, elation, disbelief, joy--these are all part of the Field General Football experience as you try to lead your team to victory.
